Spotlight on Sweden — JohannaN Jewellery

10 June 2013

JohannaN was founded in the northern part of Sweden in 2009 by Johanna Nilsson, and is based on her passion for fashion and social mobility as well as Thailand, the Thai people and her contacts there.

With a background in development and fair trade, Johanna has merged her two great interests: slow fashion and sustainability. The result is a jewelry collection where quality precedes quantity, and a goal for complete transparency between producer and consumer.

For her BJORK (translating to English as Birch) collection, Johanna has drawn inspiration from her hometown of Umea – the city of birch trees.

The natural environment was also the focus for her SKOG collection. Meaning Forest in Swedish, the intricately hand-sawn bracelet is a beautiful expression of Sweden’s delicate vegetation and bird life.

However, it was the story behind the HORN collection that captured The Keep’s heart. A hike in Lapland and a reindeer sighting led to the development of the antler motif, a design which beautifully epitomizes this personal fusion of traditional Thai craftsmanship and Nordic inspiration.

Personal and beautiful. Jewellery to keep it most definitely is.
